Shipibo Tribal Immersion

Three Ayahuasca ceremonies. Deep in the Amazon jungle of Peru. Shipibo tribal Ayahuasceros (shamans) prepare us with prayer and instruction. These masters of the Vine of the Soul sing their icaros to guide us into the deepest realms of our own Soul and on into the highest realms of Light and knowledge, then gently back home.

We have been invited by the Shipibo tribal village of Calle Ria to their tribal home, to partake of this most sacred of ceremonies. Understand... we are not going as a tour group invading the seclusion of their village. We are invited. By the headman, the grandmothers.

We will arrrive in Lima, Peru, stay the night, then catch an early flight to Pucallpa, a city set deep in the jungle upon the bank of the magnificent Lake Yarinacocha. Upon landing we will almost immediately get on our awaiting boat. Our boatman is Gilber, a dear frined of mine, a local of Lake Yarinacocha. As evening falls we will have arrived at the village of Calle Ria and our lodging in a screened-in mosquito proof maloca.

Ceremonies

We will partake of three Ayahuasca journeys on three consecutive nights. Our Ayahuasceros are tribal, experienced and honored amongst their people. The Ayahusca ceremonies... what makes these, here on this trip, so special? Here is why: These people have established a relationship with the Spirit of Mama Ayahuasca for thousands of years. More importantly, Mama Ayahuasca has known these peoples for thousands of years, and so embraces them with the depth of that continuity. These good Shipibo people have invited us, welcome us, to participate in their most revered ceremony, the Ayahuasca Journey. So when we partake, Mama Ayahuasca greets us with the same embrace as she gives these Shipibo Ayahuasceros. You cannot find this in an Ayahuasca ceremony conducted here in the States, no matter how beautiful it is. Folks... this is the real deal!

Cultural Immersion

Daytimes, between our nights' adventures, will be time to just kick back in a hammock in the jungle, go on hikes with local tribal guides, or go into the village to admire and purchase the handcrafts of the village women... beautiful embroideries and weavings whose designs bespeak the pathways of the Ayahuasca journeys.Or you amy wish to be tken on a jungle tour in a canoe with some of the villsge youth, or simply jump into the water and take a swim... the Shipibo will let you know where the piranha aren't :-)

When we arrive in the village will be met by singing and dancing, then we will be drawn in to participate in this traditional welcoming ceremony. Again, let me emphasize... this is not a 'tourist dance'. My partners and I have built a respectful and honest relatinship with the Shipibo people of Calle Ria over the years. There is a history of why they choose to greet us in this particualr manner, a story of mutual respect earned through trial and tribulation. As you are of my people, so are you welcomed, as my partners and I are welcomed.

Floral herbal baths, prepared and administered to us by the women of the tribe, will consecrate us in the conclusion of our journeys.

A final day and night, without ceremony, is spent at the maloca. We will share our journeys, integrating, assisting each other with our own insights and revelations. We will eat fine full meals of jungle food... fresh caught fish, local fruits and vegetables, rice and beans.

The Sights and Sensations of Peru

A day's boat ride down the river, through the incredibly rich growth of jungle flowers and trees, is filled with wild life... iguanas, macaws, monkeys, herons, egrets and pink dolphins. Yes! Pink dolphins!

Upon arrival back in Pucallpa we will be staying at a nice hotel with all the amenities. Hot showers, fresh clothes, a restaurant meal and a stroll through the plaza. Oh yeah... I know of a great little ice cream shop! In the morning we will go to the central market. There you can buy uña de gato... the miracle herb of the Amazon, palo santo incense (a kilo for 10 soles, or about $3US!), linaments and magical icons, native chocolate and ceremonial tobacco. What a bizarrely wonderful experience it is!

We will then catch a flight back to Lima where we will indulge in an upscale seaside area of town called Miraflores, with a final meal together. Come evening our van driver will return us to the airport where we will board our return flights home.
